While some of the language may be slightly dated, these US government-produced materials may provide you an introduction to the language. Then, you could begin working through more advanced materials or courses at a later time. FSI Arabic Here is the list of the Foreign Service Institute's Arabic programs. FSI Language Courses - Arabic FSI Saudi Arabic This appears to be the most complete program for a total newbie. The other courses will give you speaking or reading practice for particular dialects of Arabic. Although this focuses on the Saudi version of Arabic, it still will give you a more thorough introduction than the others. FSI Language Courses - Arabic Saudi Finally, if you don't mind digging around you may want to look into the DLI (Defense Language Institute) program. It should be available for download in quite a few places. Note: As another word of warning, both the FSI and DLI programs are likely quite outdated. They are also likely geared towards embassy & military personnel (and likely spooks too). The teaching methods employed may likely be quite dull for a lot of students.
