A seventeen year old has been accepted into eight Ivy League universities, three NY state schools and Duke. Congrats to this kid! "In the next month, Kwasi Enin must make a tough decision: Which of the eight Ivy League universities should he attend this fall? A first-generation American from Shirley, N.Y., the 17-year-old violist and aspiring physician applied to all eight, from Brown to Yale." I heard this and it is impressive. I will say, though, I can relate to some extent. My daughter did not apply to all of them. She applied to two of them, Princeton and Cornell. She also applied to MIT, Virginia Tech and University of Rochester. She was accepted at all of them except for wait-listed at...guess which one...University of Rochester. Her first choice was MIT, but just this young man says will be one of his considerations, the financial aid package makes a difference. The difference in the financial aid at MIT and Princeton was about as extreme as you can get. I do believe that one of my most unique experiences as a parent was watching my 17 year old daughter burst into tears because she had to go to her "2nd choice" school which was Princeton. Of course she ended up loving it there and we all know now, beyond any doubt, Princeton was a better fit for her than MIT would have been.
I already read about this in a news paper just few days back. I think it's a appreciative step and a good news for new learners.
