As part of a Mother's Day present, I'm trying to track down a movie about Navajo "code-talkers" who transmitted messages during WW2. (The Navajo language developed somewhat independently, so the Japanese couldn't crack it.) My searches on IMDB have all been in vain. All I know for sure about the movie is that: 1. It's a work of historical fiction--not a documentary. 2. It was probably made between 1965 and 1985. 3. It once aired on television. Thanks for any leads. Cheers,
Lots of stuff on web about the new movie (Windtalkers, due to be released on same day as Scooby Doo!). This is presumably the old one: http://www.tullyent.com/moviepopuppages/codetalkers.htm
This is a 1995 film; see the film notes: http://history.sandiego.edu/gen/filmnotes/codetalkers.html Released by Tully Entertainment 1995, color, mono sound, 55 mins. Produced and Written by Brendan Tully Directed by Allan Silliphant Editing by Francine Rzeznik Interviews by Carl Gorman & Keith Little & Thomas Begay, codetalkers; also Tom Thomas, military historian
I suspect that the film Bill references is the same one that I referenced (both from Tully Entertainment). I have also seen comments about another film produced by Gale Anne Hurd called True Whispers or Whispers in the Wind or something like that.
Thanks to both of you--I've been slow to respond, but I really do appreciate it. I suspect the Hurd film is the one I'm looking for, as it looks as though this was not a documentary, but was rather an honest-to-goodness movie movie. Cheers,
