I was asked by a reporter about a political candidate in her town with a claimed degree from Ellis. Here's a brief summary of where I had gotten to at the time I gave up. At least, I believe it is the first time that bull semen has been mentioned on this forum.

In 1999, Cardean University was established as a for-profit school, owned by UNext.

In 2003, the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) acquired a part interest in UNext and transformed Cardean University into Ellis College, a degree-granting part of NYIT (which is regionally accredited by the Middle States Association).

In 2005, UNext changed its name to the Cardean Learning Group.

In 2007, the Cardean Learning Group changed its name to Capital Education.

In 2008, NYIT announced that it was closing down Ellis College and would be opening a totally different school called Ellis University. Ellis University became regionally accredited by the North Central Association and nationally accredited by DETC.

Ellis College opens (or reopens?) as a for-profit school in Portland, Oregon, but almost no information could be found.

In 2012, Ellis University somehow became John Hancock University, lost its regional accreditation, but was accredited by DETC.

In 2012, John Hancock University was acquired by the private Temania Group. (The only Temania business I can find on the internet is a marketer of bull semen.)

In 2012, the John Hancock Life Insurance Company sues Temania and John Hancock University for using that name.

In 2012, NYIT agrees to pay the US government $2.5 million to settle allegations that they unlawfully paid bonuses to student recruiters. In a similar action, Cardean agrees to pay $1.5 million.

Maybe we should go back to the forum's primary topic, which of course is distance education.

And on that note, it is interesting to see that the National Pork Board (web address: pork.org) offers a non-credit distance learning course that addresses the uses of pig semen:

Sorry to disappoint, Dr. Bear, but I don't think the Temania Group in question here deals in B.S. -- bull semen, that is. Here's a quote from the Illinois Board of Higher Education's site, regarding John Hancock U.

"Ellis University has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Temania Group LP, a subsidiary of Eminata Group."

The whole thing is here: http://www.ibhe.org/Board/agendas/2012/September/Item%20C-8%20New%20Units%20of%20Instruction%20-%20Independent.pdf

Eminata is an educational group located in Canada - its site is here. Eminata Group - Canada's Education Company In this case, Temania is little more than an anagram, I guess.

    lol :iagree:

A Google search for "degreeinfo bull semen" turns up this thread and a number of hits for "cum laude." Hilarious to me because I was caught entirely off guard. Google got jokes, eh?
