There's a primary election for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in the Fifth District of Massachusetts tomorrow, to replace former Rep. Ed Markey who won John Kerry's seat in the Senate.

For all the polarization in U.S. politics today, I think most people who watch the ad that follows won't be able to help but think, "I wish I could vote for that guy."

    One way or the other…

That conversation happens in the opposite direction between my mom and me. We used to at least agree on protecting civil liberties, but alas, now she seems to feel compelled to defend Obama whenever I point out his administration's anti-liberal policies so these days there's not even that.

Carl came a credible third out of seven candidates for the Democratic nomination in a heavily Democratic district, including most of Cambridge, etc.

Now the Republican nominee, Frank Addivinola, is a lawyer and organic chemistry tutor who reports seven earned degrees, including from HES (ALM, Biology, 1996) and UMUC (MS Technology Management, 1997; MBA, General Management, 2001). [His CV; pdf.]

  5. Wow, that Addivinola fellow is the poster guy for perpetual students. Gets PhD candidacy at UMCP with a 6-year fellowship under a Nobel laureate, and instead of actually finishing the dissertation, goes off and gets two MSes, an MBA, a JD, and an Ll.M during his candidacy.
