    What do you folks think?

The film was interesting for the Layman, but I'm no science expert, so I'm curious to see how real this type of thing could be. Purely entertainment, or could something like this be possible?

I'm sorry but I have to say that I've never heard of this movie. I don't mind saying that I've never believed in mermaids and that if there really was some sort of compelling scientific evidence for their existence then it would probably be the lead story on every newscast in the world.

Agreed. But the aquatic ape hypothesis is still interesting IMO. . . .

I'll watch it. I'm with Kiz in that I'm skeptical that mermaids, sasquatch, chupacabra and the like most likely do not exist. However, as far as I'm concerned "no evidence" is simply a less accurate way of saying "haven't found it yet". I'm curious, full of wonder and purposefully open-minded about cryptids. Finding any one of them would be cool.

As we speak, NASA is blending billions of dollars into breakfast smoothies over the question of whether there exists extraterrestrial life. There is no evidence that it exists, but the scientists really, really, really want there to be, so they are looking. I don't see searching for cryptids as any different.

Is this a continuation of the fake documentary everyone thought was real? It looks like it is. This isn't about finding evidence; it's just CGI entertainment.

I'd like to disagree with this because when you say "I haven't found it yet," this implies that there is actually something which might be found. If I say, "I lost my keys and despite all my searching I haven't found them yet," this makes sense because I know that the keys exist and that all I need to do is look in the right place. You can't say the same thing about mermaids because there is no evidence that they exist or ever existed. If you say, "We haven't found the mermaids yet," you're assuming that they actually exist (despite lack of evidence) and that you only need to look in the right place to find them. This assumption is an error.

My original post can be summarized as "Mermaids don't exist, but this might be fun, given my sense of curiosity, imagination and adventure." Your response can be sumarized as "The problem with curiosity, imagination and adventure is that I have none."
