Just upgraded my notebook to a Hewlett Packard Envy:

    17.3" screen
    4th Generation i7 -4700 MQ (2.4) processor
    8 Gig of RAM
    1 TB hard drive
    beats audio
    click pad

This means I can continue to frequent DI.

    HP: Boring and reliable
Dell: Poor quality with great features
Sony: Sexy but oh those prices!
Lenovo: The old IBM with the best hardware in the business
Toshiba: Ahhhhhh......I have the 2.5 lb. Portege 935 to go along with my Lenovo.
    Acer and the others: YMMV.

I upgraded from an HP Pavilion that I used for four years, actually did quite a bit of my dissertation on it. Never had a problem with it.

It's hard to beat the sleek look of the Apple notebook, but the price kept me from purchasing one.

Nothing against HP. Except, possibly their hookup with "Beats" audio. Even the HP $100+ Android tablet in WalMart has a Beats Audio blurb on the box.

I've read some reviews that say the magic is not much after all and suggest the only real work that HP's "Beats Audio" tie-in does is in making Dr. Dre even richer than he is! How many Bentleys does the guy need?

But who listens to me anyway - the guy whose 1988 Sharp PC-4600 laptop (two 720K floppies, no hard drive) sits in the closet? If I needed a laptop, I could afford one easily, but I just don't. If that changes, I think Toshiba or Lenovo would get my money. Somebody once gave me a used IBM laptop made by Lenovo and it lasted 13 years, all told. Tough machine!

You had to spend all that money, just to post here?

Just kidding, of course. Very nice machine and people should have the kind of computer they like! And I'm sure it'll do a lot more than handle your posts at DI!

Good choice. And it doesn't matter that I'm not a Beats Audio fan. It sells - ergo, many people do like it. There has to be a reason!
