Cheez, Gert, do you do a search every morning to see if my name has appeared in print in the past 24 hours? Well some of us do find the notion of players who hit the only home run of their lives in their vary last major league at bat of interest. Not unlike earning your Ph.D. and dying the same day. Wonder if anyone ever did that?
Actually, John, we have delegated this responsibility to seven regular posters now. Each poster checks one day per week, today just happened to be Gert's day.
Well, I do have a set of standard queries that get run every day, with interesting results reported here. But I don't search for "John Bear" routinely -- in this case, I was looking for a specific (old) story and turned up this item. In any case, John, sorry for giving the impression that I was "virtually" stalking you.
Oh, no I didn't feel 'stalked,' just bemused at what aspects of my public life, as it were, get noticed. Next up: I just got a coupon good for ten pounds of kibble, because a letter to the editor, to (now, what magazine would you deduce rewards contributors with kibble*) will be appearing. _________ * No, not the WAUC Gazette
Hopefully there's a pet who can take care of the kibble. If there's no pet then I'll guess it's those creative cooking skills running amok.
John and I, sitting at my kitchen table in San Antonio, pouring through the Baseball Encyclopedia while my wife watches patiently. That journey is coming to an end, John. Thanks.
Gert: Hopefully there's a pet who can take care of the kibble. If there's no pet then I'll guess it's those creative cooking skills running amok. John: Luiseagh*, the new Soft-Coated Wheaten terrier puppy. ________ * Pronounced "Lucy." As an Irish breed, they are supposed to have Gaelic names. "eagh" is pronounced "ee" as any uisgebagh drinker knows. I don't understand the silent "b" but I once met an Irishman named "Carbahails" pronounced "Carrol."
