A rather disjointed (and thus amusing) story from The Insider (Harare) about a person with PhD from Pacific Western University: Blind Justice: Jesse in South Africa. Snippet: Is he a genius? A cunning con artist? Or a berserk person who should be in a mental institution? These are all questions that have been asked about David Israel Ben Jesse. He never ceases to amaze those around him. The 43-year-old former soldier, self-proclaimed farmer and millionaire, who is wanted by police in Zimbabwe on several charges, has been working in South Africa, first as a candidate attorney and of late as a law clerk. He only disappeared at the end of March. And reports say, so has close to a million rand in trust funds. ... Jesse's PhD certificate is from the Pacific Western University and says he majored in agricultural science. He is said to have obtained the PhD in April 1989. ... Ironically, although he had obtained his PhD certificate more than a decade earlier, an extract from UNISA says David Israel BenJesse had passed 10 subjects, but it adds: "As soon as the candidate has satisfied the requirements of his certificate of conditional exemption from the matriculation examination, credit for the study units concerned will be granted in partial completion of the Baccalaureus Procurationis." [i.e. once he can show he has high school credentials -- or exemption due to mature age etc. -- he can have his 10 Unisa courses credited towards a degree in procedural law]

If you have nothing better to do (and I realize you probably do) try Googling this: Alan Norton + David Israel Ben Jesse You'll get some uh... interesting articles on the life, times and exploits of Ben Jesse, whose name was Alan (or Allan, I'm not sure) Norton. Included are some from sites he's tried unsuccessfully to have shut down. A telling quote about law, from Ben Jesse's own website: " It is about who can be the biggest bastard right until the very end." :shock: He also displays his three degrees (Bachelor's Master's and Ph.D., all in in Agricultural Science) from - you guessed it - Pacific Western University. That was an unaccredited California school that was (much) later bought and re-branded as California Miramar U. As California Miramar, it became DETC accredited and subsequently attained ACICS accreditation. Later, it appears to have voluntarily relinquished DETC accreditation and retained ACICS. It is still ACICS accredited to the present day. J.
