There's an anonymous troll stinking up About.com's DL board. He goes by the handle of "Dave-the-brave" or DLANDERSSO1. He trails the following initials after his posts:

MA, MS, MCSE+I, MCT, Master CIW Inst., CCNA, CNA.

He also leaves this link about Steve: www.360connect.com/levicoffwatch. This is an angry guy.

Does anyone know who he is?

(My tussles with Steve are well-documented, but the information on that page is utterly baseless. I hope it's actionable, even though I'm pretty sure Steve wouldn't bother.)

    Hi Rich

This guy originally posted to AED and later here. I seem to remember a nick of RangerDave. Steve won his attention with a rather strong post (normal for Steve). Dave's response seemed a little over the top.

Supposedly his real name is David Anderson (although it probably isn’t) and he lurks on this forum. He used to post on the old AED under the name Airborne Ranger and actually posted on this forum a few times under the name airborne_ranger.

On AED, Steve exposed several of his lies (such as his Web site depicting a fictitious Russian mail order bride who had a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, but worked as a supermarket clerk, or something similar, nonetheless), revealed some damaging personal information, and generally got under his skin. (Steve would address him as Airborne Prancer.)

This individual, unquestionably, fits the classic definition of a troll.

  4. David L. Anderson

I would agree with Gus that this fellow's real name is not David Anderson. I suspect he is an avid follower of the real David L. Anderson. D.L. Anderson authored some books regarding the Viet Nam War Era.

I haven't been on the About forum for almost a year and it seems that need someone like Kristen really bad! I quit reading alt.distanceeducation a long time ago since it never seemed to provide any information... just personal flames.

Just my thoughts for what it's worth.

    Regards,
    Dick

I visited his site and he has something called the Hamster Blast. LOL

Yes, he seems angry or upset about something. What, I'm not sure.

I think he used to post on AED under the handle "Airborne Ranger." I seem to remember that alphabet soup associated with that pen name.

    Re: Dave-The-Depraved *LOL*

I do know he is extremely arrogant. If anyone questions the validity of his education or any of his claims for that matter, he lashes out.

He was bragging at "About.com" how he attained a position paying him $30,000 over the summer "break." I pointed out to him that such claims and bragging about them is a sign arrogance, he automatically assumed I was jealous instead of put off by his unproven claims of greatness. His ego knows no boundary.

Sounds like someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The pack of lies on his website is also consistent with NPD. The disorder seems to produce raving jerks of the first order.

Steve appears to have made enemies with a nut case. That site is a crack up filled with distortions and half truths. The part on the site that really cracks me up is the narrative documenting Steve's "Homophobic" statements and wondering whether Steve may be secretly "homoerotic". That had me rolling on the carpet. Steve has never made any secret of his sexual orientation.

Steve has made an invaluable contribution to DL. His expose's have made him enemies. I am not a fan of his old crude and demeaning responses to people on the old aed. Though, I must admit that a couple of times his wit had me laughing pretty hard. I also think the guy jumps to conclusions sometimes. But he is pretty solid when it comes to DL religious studies. I wish he would keep current because he is a wealth of information.

I cheered Steve over MIGS after the boorish behavior of that attorney from San Antonio who was rude (kept refering to Steve as Mr.) and obvioulsy did not have his act together which resulted in the suit being dropped. Go Steve...go Steve...

If we can believe the revised date on the site, then it hasn't been touched for 3 years, and it only had 45 visitors. However, someone with such a grasp of reality as this gent likely hasn't the time to deal with something as mundane as the current century.

I remember someone like this guy on aed some time ago. If it's the same dude, he was running for some minor office in Florida. He was really a character.

I haven't been to aed for some time, as I've been busy with other stuff (and haven't been nearly as involved with degreeinfo as I would lie). However, a walk through the troll patch may prove entertaining.

  11. Response to libel

    Gents,

RC Douglas has publicly posted on about.com about libeling me on your site. Others have followed inspite of a memebers agreement about posting vulgar and hateful material. IAW US law, I request permission to respond to any comments about me And in the same vein.

Obviously, if I am NOT allowed to respond to these comments, I will address this this administratively and legally.

  12. Rich,

You're not being especially open and honest about this. Nor professional. If you do not like it, then do not ask for it. When you get it...don't run crying home to mama.

  14. Response

Steve HAS bothered - fairly recently. His problem is that he is on the public record for doing and saying exactly those things. In the US - "the truth is an absolute defense" - he really did those things. If it was NOT true he would have grounds to have the site changed untill it WAS true. He's also on the record for saying that he "can do what he wants - because it's the friggen' internet" - but apparently it's less fun when his actions are consoslidated. Thank god I pick my friends a bit more carefully. There's actually some fairly good material on 1st admendment rights on the web site RC mentioned. Perhaps Nixon can expand on that. Nixon may even want to comment on his personal and professional opions of Levicoff's conduct - or not. I'd certainly be interested.

My position is that harrassing and abusing handicapped people is not very admirable - a position I feel very comfortable with. I realize that many people on this site may not agree with this.

Note that Steve has never - to my knowledge - made an apology or requested any site changes.

    Gus,

Don't quit your day job. OTOH, you DID say "supposedly" :)

"On AED, Steve exposed several of his lies (such as his Web site depicting a fictitious Russian mail order bride who had a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, but worked as a supermarket clerk, or something similar, nonetheless), revealed some damaging personal information, and generally got under his skin.

    ????

A bit out there - I am not aware of SL doing any such thing.

  16. Perhaps ESL?

    Kane,

You may want to look into an ESL program. You have many admirable qualities, but relevant discussion comprehension appears not to be a demonstrated strength.

I lit this fire by asking about this person. Anyone who's followed the thread on the other board will know why. I didn't think he'd behave like this here. Sorry.

Mr Anderson/Airborne: I look forward to the positive contributions to the discussion of distance learning I have no doubt you can bring.

  18. Response

    Rich,

I will be more than happy to follow your lead in this.

Re: "I didn't think he'd behave like this here." - And I had no idea my response to your "balloon pricking" invitation would trigger the response it did. I was expecting something along the lines of "point taken".

Mr. Douglas, as I have repeatedly said on about.com "I generally defer to RC's expertise in DL" - I admire the time and trouble you take with people seeking information.

    Hi Rich

Well the same thing happened on AED over a year ago. Then here in the IT Forum some time ago. It appears the issue is not yours:D. What forum is the talked about discussion at about.com? Thanks.

THE RANGER WROTE: "You may want to look into an ESL program. You have many admirable qualities, but relevant discussion comprehension appears not to be a demonstrated strength."

MY RESPONSE: Just another demonstration of egotism and arrogance. Instead of rationally debating issues you resort to insults and personal attacks when challenged.
