Kizmet, I read of this the other day. If this is effective, it may very well end a plague that has affected virtually every family. If this proves to be a success, there is still little doubt that all of us will have regrets that it didn't come sooner for many of our loved ones.

Today is my daughter's 14th birthday. Her mother had breast cancer in her early 30s, which is extremely young for that, although fortunately now it's in remission. So as you can imagine, advances in this sort of medical technology can't come fast enough to suit me.

Steve, we are quite familiar with breast cancer in our family, as well. It sounds like your daughter will need to begin her mammograms much earlier than most.

After meeting the enemy face to face, I welcome any weapon that helps with its destruction. I do fear availability and the costing structure. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a very expensive then experimental drug here.

I have a moral dilemma about those that cannot and I think that this for me can only be resolved by working as hard as I can to make sure everybody has the same chance I did for all cancers. The Australian Govt. (as they should) has stepped in and is now funding the treatment option that I had bought.

I know it is irrational and paranoid but I have this small suspicion that the availability of treatment is somehow connected to population control. The most vexing issue after cancer, in the first world, is dementia which is an enormous cost in human and financial terms. If we cure cancer and then still have dementia on the table; we are in trouble. In the third world, people are still trying to live past infancy. Some how it all has to be levelled.

On a micro level, when I thought about the experimental treatment I found out which company produced it. After that, I knew that the company would need to make an announcement to the stock market on the success or otherwise of the trials. I read the report to the market and then read the markets reaction to the announcement. I figure that good old capitalism would make its evaluation of the product and vote with its money. Fortunately, the stock went up. Saved me a lot of reading stuff that I did not understand before committing to it.
