Amen. If there's any area of life other than food where the amount of clear thought that people apply and the overall importance to them is more out of balance, I'm not sure what it is.

The only objection I have is- why would you GRIND perfectly good lion steaks in order to make tacos?

It's just a food taboo, it's all culture, depends on what you grew up eating. Ask the average American, and he won't eat bugs either. :) There isn't anything inherently different between lions and cows and pigs oh my.

That's what I keep saying, but everyone seems to complain when I grill up some manatee steaks.

Imagine the looks one would receive at Taco Bell for placing the following order: Feline taco combo please, extra sour cream and tomatoes, and a large Coke.

While I would have a personal aversion to eating meat from many animals, I don't necessarily see a reason to protest other peoples' culinary decisions in this case.

However, if we start talking about eating apes, chimpanzees, etc., I might sing a different tune because these animals are so closely related to humans.

People eat apes. It's a source of ebola.

I don't eat a lot of red meat but I'd eat a lion steak if it was on a restaurant menu. Maybe with some fava beans and a nice chianti. I think there really are food taboos in some cultures and so you have to dive into the realm of cultural relativism. Even without ebola would you eat a chimp steak? How about the Donner party? Those soccer guys in the Andes? Would you eat a human if it meant living or dying? Let's not stop at lions, tigers and bears (oh, my) go all the way. Eat a human. After all, it's just dead meat. Or, it's dead once you kill it.

How about road kill. Lots of people eat road kill. Waste not want not.

I just realized that this is actually quite an amusing false polychotomy. Observe:

People who choose identities based upon their diets (ie, those who say "I'm a Vegan." as opposed to "My diet is vegan.") actually scare me.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't eat lion on principle. They are approaching endangered status and could quickly find themselves in the danger zone if consumption of lion meat became a trend.

    Yep.

I hope you one day slip and say this loudly enough in public, so you can finally get the help you need.

If you were starving to death, would you (if you could safely) chop off your own limbs to provide the temporary nourishment necessary to survive? No, I don't ever plan on asking this loudly enough in public, but thanks for the suggestion :)

I read that lions are close to being on the endangered species list. The higher you go up the food chain, the less animals there are. Other than that, I wouldn't want to eat lion or any other predator. Maybe it's because I just took the biology and environment and humanity exams, but eating predators just doesn't seem appetizing to me. The higher you go up the food chain, the less nutritious the animal is going to be in general.

OK, so I'd eat a lion steak. But, I clearly said I'd do it if it was on a restaurant menu. That would mean that it's legal and off the endangered list (although I remember that cute movie with Matthew Broderick and Marlin Brando).
