Has anybody else taken the MAT? I needed it to work on my MA in Christian Studies from Abilene Christian University. Well, I could choose between the MAT and the GRE.

The MAT was recommended, since it had been a few years since I was in school (@8). Well, all I have to say is that if the GRE is harder, then I am REALLY glad I took the MAT.

I thought I had a fairly good vocabulary, but was very humbled by my testing experience...:D

Well, I am sure I did fine on it, but needless to say, my ego took a beating... lol

I took it in 98 - cold turkey and received a score of 86, Pepperdine had a min. score requirement of 46. Don't worry too much about it ------ you might want to get their MAT work book at a local book store.

I'm also not much of a test taker

Yeah, I bought one of the workbooks. It actually did a pretty good job of preparing me.
I guess it just sort of shocked me that it was so - whats the right word??? - expansive and comprehensive.
I remember taking the ACT and SAT in High School (oh so many years ago) and they were simple. I did great on them, and walked out after taking the test knowing that I did do great...
I guess the MAT just amazed me, when it would offer up three words that I had never heard in my entire life and expect me to be able to utilize them to decipher the proper answer. It could have been written in Japanese on those questions :D

So was your 86 your raw score or the %? I think ACU wants a score in the upper 50%. So I really am not worried about it. I just wondered if anyone else had taken the test and what their thoughts were.
    thanks,

Got my score yesterday. made a 75 raw score, thats in the 93% of all who take it, and 92% of those with the same intended degree area (religion, in this case).

So apparently, it wasn't as hard as I thought. Or maybe I was extremely lucky when guessing :D .

Then again, anytime you take a test where 75 out of 100 is in the top 7 percent... it is probably a tough test.

In any event, it works to get me into the program.
