AHHHHHHHHHH! I got my first notice for jury duty in the mail a while back and had to postpone - Colorado only allows one postponement. So now I on the hook for March 18. I know I will have to show up since I no longer have a juror number since I rescheduled and wondering your experiences reporting for jury duty. Were you selected for a trial? How long did the trial last? What was your overall experience like?

Too bad I can't take my comp and work on my coursera course while I am waiting! lol

They will likely allow printed material...like a book, print out the coursera info and take it along.

I hate getting called, never been past the room where they heard pool. I suspect with police/fire/ems on my questionnaire the defense attorneys just yell pass at the mention of my name....by I don't know that to be true.

Mostly lawyers will be standing around making plea-bargains with other lawyers while you sit in a small room with a couple of dozen other people and read a book. Then they send you home.

It consists of you canceling a full day of work just to spend a total of 5 minutes waiting in a back room before they tell you that you are dismissed. The good news is, if you usually earn less than $20 per day, you make out financially.

Or, it consists of you spending the next year of your life on national television trying to look like you are actually writing something worth remembering on your yellow pad. The good news is, you get to receive death threats from people with enough wherewithal to actually carry them out.

    Have fun!

Tell them you work in a women's prison managing a 300-person medium security unit with about 50 lifers in for murder. I was gone in 10 minutes.

Almost no matter what they ask me, once I open my mouth no prosecutor will seat me.

My favorite line: "I'm very glad to have been called for jury duty because I can tell a guilty person just by looking at them."

I realize this is a joke, but in case anyone out there doesn't, please be advised that actually saying this (or similar smart-a** comments) could lead to a citation for contempt. In fact, any real attempt to get out of jury duty can lead to bad consequences. Better to just tell it like it is and wait for an unlikely actual trial.

THe one thing I am slightly worried about is the Aurora Theatre shooting. I live in Aurora Co and Holmes is expected to make a plea deal on Tues. My jury duty day is one week after that plea. Is it most likely they will schedule the trial for later than a week after the plea deal? I would imagine both sides would want time to prep before trial, right?!? I hope and pray that is the case. DO NOT WANT ON THAT JURY.

I always wondered what would happen if they called me. I doubt I would be pleasing to the prosecutor. In the 1990s I wrote a book on the death penalty that was not really what a prosecutor would want to read. My wife has jury duty this Monday....

I was called for jury duty once. My psychiatrist sent them a note saying that serving on a jury might be harmful toi my health. So I got out of it.
