For some strange reason, I've never liked the 49ers enough to really be "into" them, but since they're the closest team to where I live I'll be rooting for them this time. I figure a close game, too, although I think both teams are overconfident enough to walk in expecting a blowout victory.
The last time I was actually into the playoffs, the Jets field goal kicker missed two game-winners in a row and left the team for dead. I feel like I just broke a cardinal rule by mentioning the Jets in a superbowl discussion.
My team is not in the playoffs, again, so I just do not really care. Maybe next year for the Cowboys, but I just do not care.
:alcoholic:I'm go to go ahead and admit this- I spent 10 minutes earlier today arguing with my "not into sports" 18 year old son. I asked him who was playing (which reveals how "not into sports" this momma is) and he said "the 49ers and the Ravens." I said "Ravens? You mean RAIDERS! Even though you're not into football, you at least need to know who is playing- otherwise you'll have to turn in your man card!" To which, he showed me the game page, which does actually say RAVENS. Seriously, I've never even heard of a team called the Ravens. <shaking head> Cheers.
I don't have the technical capability of watching this year, and somehow my popularity must have run dry because I haven't been invited to any parties. I still feel the urge to honor the spirit of the game, so I decided to go out and buy some cheap beer that I wouldn't normally drink (Miller Genuine Draft... not good, but it's still way better than Budweiser), some highly caloric potato and salt based snack and listen to the game on my decade old pocket radio while doing chores around my apartment. The more I think about it, the more fun it sounds! And simultaneously productive. Am I really aging THIS quickly?
The last time I watched or cared about football the Jets played at Shea Stadium. I just found out about 3 years ago that they do not play there any more. :nono:
I saved myself about 800 calories by opting for Coke Zero and Pringles Light instead of (bad) beer and Ruffles. I couldn't decide who to root for, since I have equal history with both teams. I used to play as the 49ers in Gameday '97 and as the Ravens in Madden '02. I decided to cheer for the 9ers just in time for the play that cost them the game (the radio broadcasters claim it should have been both a holding and a pass interference call). Sooo, I apparently suck at picking football teams.
I was rooting for the Ravens. Baltimore is right up the road from D.C., the two are basically one big area, and they had to cheer for our team during their years in the post-Colts wilderness, so it seems only fair to back them now. I know, I writing this after the fact, but it was still true. Either way, it one hell of a game.
