In graduate school I had a teaching assistantship for which I taught a chemistry lab. It usually had a simple quiz prior to the lab starting mainly to encourage students to read the lab manual prior to getting to class. I too had the closed book no calculator policy. One particular quiz was a simple word problem based on the day's experiment that worked out so that one was left to solve the problem "10/2=". Several students complained about the lack of calulator.
That is hilarious. I wish my math tests were that easy! I guess the prof. just wanted you to show up?!?
