It could also be geek chic. Geek is in style in some circles and some people with no degrees or liberal arts majors want to be considered geeks.

I wonder why pi gets so much attention. There are many other awesome numbers. For example, for nearly two decades, I've been a fan of the number 2.

    And who is this?

Just some guy whose hobby it is to win the World Series. He does it on occasion when he has time in between spending his millions of dollars and dating women hotter than I can even imagine actually exist. In other words, he is the real life version of the guy I pretend to be on the internet.

I'm a Red Sox fan but even I felt bad when he broke his ankle. He was having a good year and it's too bad it ended that way.

I know his best friend but I don't actually know him.

I haven't been watching much baseball over the past few years, but after reading your comment I looked over his stats. I never would have expected that in his late thirties he would still be putting up the same kind of numbers he did in his late twenties. Part of it is that he has remained relatively injury-free over the years. He has had his ups and downs and bumps and bruises, but never anything as severe as what he is currently recovering from. I do wonder if he'll ever be the same again.

I knew Pi to at least 10 decimal points in 8th grade. We had a banner in my Algebra I class spanning the entire room with Pi in all its glory.
I am not so impressed with someone's knowledge of such a fundamental constant as Pi.

So, my 55 memorized digits of pi are as unimpressive to you as my 5 languages? Next thing you know, you will tell me that my high score of 525,000 on Robotron was just a waste of time.

I don't think he deserved the last golden glove award that he won but I don't mind saying that he's a great player. He'll be in the HOF the first year he's eligible. I hope he comes back strong and then retires when he's on top.

I love how this thread was about math but then morphed into baseball because some Yankee fan posted a pic. Sorry, Giant's fan here, but I clicked on this thread to talk about math! And now I find I have nothing to say except that I miss solving equations! I loved linear algebra and quantum mechanics at University, back when I was fortunate enough to attend University. Now I have to explore distance learning to finish my degree with kids!

How quickly a math thread devolved into something about baseball! Are you all that easily distracted???

If there's something math related you'd like to add I'm sure no one would object. Of course, if you're one of those newbies who shows up and does nothing but post rude messages then you're right on track.:newbie:

I seemed over his statistics. I never would have predicted that in his delayed 30's he would still be placing up the same type of figures he did in his delayed 20s.
