  1. Virtual lab to link Arab scientists.

A snippet: "... Another key role of the network is to enable Arab science students to learn without having to leave their countries. Currently many Arab students spend at least some of their time studying in the West. But some believe that it may be more difficult for scientists from Muslim countries to find university places in Europe and the US following the 11 September attacks. ..."

The article is worthing looking at, if only for the photo of "surfing scientists."

  2. Not sure what "worthing looking" means, but it's worth looking at anway!

    Hi Gus,

There is indeed much effort hereabouts in the Arab world (Middle East where I am located) to reinvigorate scientific effort.

The recent Egyptian Nobel winner (Chemistry I think), though at a US university, has been feted as an inspiration to others.

With resources more available nowadays, there is a serious interest - as many US / UK and other educational expatriates employed in universities and higher colleges can testify.

The picture is not unusual - although not really indicative of scientific endeavour.

Indeed, the Ruler of Sharjah, one of the oldest established of the UAE emirates holds an earned (not honorary) PhD from Exeter University.

    Regards,

    Neil Hynd
