So I've been noticing a string of horrible movies that I've seen recently and had "higher expectations" of. However, I have also seen a few movies that I never heard of that turn out to be awesome. Let Down: Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance Surprisingly Good: Kill the Irishman Anyone else experience this? Please share as I'm always looking for a good flick.
Something really bad has happened to the movie industry in recent years. Almost all of the movies I've seen in the past couple of years have been bad (and expensive). I think they forgot how to tell a good story.
There's very little creativity in Hollywood right now. Lots of remakes. Lots of dependence on special effects. Not a lot of good acting. Very few good scripts.
I avoid disappointment by waiting until I've heard a movie is really good before I go see it. At today's prices, I suppose it's only an occasional thing for me no matter what.
I don't know if you have seen this oldie but goodie: Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai trailer - YouTube You might like it. Abner
I really liked Hugo, good acting and a great story. Even my nine year old liked it, I was completely surprised.
Today, I decided to put on one of my favorite childhood movies, A Goofy Movie, while I did my workout. I still see myself as Max, a goofy, awkward kid who is dying to break out of his shell and become noticed. He did break out of his shell, did some wild, pompous things but then finds out he was actually liked all along- even by the girl he tried so desperately to impress. In the end, he BOTH learns to be more outgoing AND to be humble- gaining appreciation for who he is and where he comes from. How about that? A children's movie featuring nuanced characters who learn lessons that are actually worth imparting. What a concept! And this from a movie that is not generally considered to be a masterpiece of its era.
I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard from several friends that Ted is absolutely hysterical; Ted - Trailer - YouTube
I just got through watching a movie called "You can't take it with you" It won the Best Picture Oscar in 1938. It was full of stars, very funny and had a simple moral lesson built in. I enjoyed the whole thing.
I thought the following were excellent movies: * Midnight in Paris * The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel * Wild Target I thought the HBO Hemingway movie was interesting but did not see the point of the sex scenes
