Insanity, P90X, and other workout routines . . .

A few months ago a buddy I used to see at the gym all the time up and disappeared. Then I ran into him last week and he looked shredded, a complete transformation from what he looked like 2-3 months before. I asked him where he's been and he stated he took two months off from the gym and instead stayed at home doing the Insanity Workout.

That night I did some research and spoke to a few friends who use these types of fitness products, everyone I spoke to uses P90X and said they loved it. My gym regiment I learned while on active duty, which included running and heavy free weight workouts.

Based on the results directly in front of my face, I opted for the Insanity Workout. Now granted back in October I was lifting 6 days per week and running 2 miles every other day and eventually got my run time down to 12 minutes flat. (Which was huge for me considering I smoke a pack a day, and even in my prime while I was in the military, my best time for a 2 mile run was 16:32 because I've never been a runner)

Since October I've been plagued by work restrictions (promotion/ long hours) and a shoulder injury. I dropped down to hitting the gym 3 days per week, stopped running all together, and overall my motivation dropped as I watch my results and strength go down the toilet. Meanwhile my weight jumped 13 pounds and not in a good way.

Insanity arrived today and I gave it a shot. I have no idea what hurts more, my body or my ego, lol.

    I'll keep you posted. . .

I did p90x for 2 months a few years ago. Lost almost 30lbs in that time. I'll still do the workouts now from time to time when I want to skip the gym/do something different. Both p90x and Insanity are from the same company, p90x utilizes some weights, Insanity is purely using body weight.

I like the Insanity workouts. We have been bringing bits and pieces of it our unit workouts with great results.

I have a bunch of former students who all did P90X together. Their results were amazing. Now I just need to get off my butt and do it too!

Oh it works. It really works. It is tough, tough. I run 42 miles a week at a 7:30 pace average. It tore me up. I am going to have to do it again, but dang....LOL

I really like Insanity, however I get bored of it quickly and it gets too easy quickly if I do it on a regular basis. I sometimes use it to fill part of my personal weekly cardio mandate (3 hrs/week). Not doing it so often keeps it fresh, keeps it difficult and allows me to have better overall variety in my exercise routine.

I watched my wife do the initial "fitness assessment" today and she was smoked. After completing the warm up, before the assessment, she looked at me and said, "That was just the warm up, and now is the test . . . .oh $hit."

I almost lost it I was laughing so hard.

I have P90X and did 3 weeks of it - felt great.. then a move and life, so now that we're getting settled into our new house, I'm starting it up again next week - I love the weight workouts and yes, the transformation actually comes pretty quickly.

Left the military awhile ago. I spent some time in Afghanistan as a contractor. I should get Insanity in the mail in a day or two. I did some P90X workouts and Insanity workouts before, but I am looking to embrace the program.

My normal workouts usually involve what is considering power lifting. I love lifting heavy as going light and increasing the reps never gave me the same feeling. Insanity is a nice change and has been a real gut check thus far.
