To be fair, most of the students probably attack the teacher on a regular basis and their parents certainly don't care about childrens education. She obviously has to spend all of her money on buying supplies for the school so she cannot afford to take course in "Law in the US" at the local community college. Plus, she's probably tired from working all those 10-12 hour days and not having time off during the summer.

With pay. Extra long summer vacation...oops, I forgot the meme. Extra long time where she will work all summer just not in school indoctrin...er....teaching children. This will blow over easily by the fall and she'll be back in place letting your children know how racist they are.

    Sweet.

Ridiculous. I'm not one to overreact to issues like this, but this one takes the cake. She's not only being biased; she's completely inaccurate in her characterizations. I don't mind if a teacher makes his or her case for a particular viewpoint, but the views should be based in fact, and the teacher should be willing to engage with those who do not share his or her opinions.

This subject could have been a great opportunity to bring up the issue of political dissent in America. You could go to the Alien and Sedition Acts, the Espionage Act of 1917, the Sedition Act of 1918, and the PATRIOT Act to discuss civil liberties in light of conflicts. What she did, however, was totally off base.

Any teacher that doesn't know that a United States citizen can criticize the President or any other elected official should be forced to pay for their own trip to Arlington National Cemetery so they can see all the people who died to defend their right to do just that.

A citizen's criticism of government is the epitome of free speech.

I agree that she should have acted more like an adult and should have had more control over her classroom.
Just say something like "Ok thats enough, lets get back to today's lesson."

Here we go again... one idiot teaching making us all look like idiots.

Doesn't this woman know how to play the role of the Devil's Advocate? Geez! I do it all the time... She should be promoting discussion and debate, NOT promoting her own views. It is NOT the job of teachers to tell kids what to think. It's our job to teach them HOW to think...

Ding, ding, ding! You win. I think this is the point. Yeah, she got loud (the kids were punky and obnoxious and loud too- who cares?) and she doesn't want the kids to be disrespectful to the President of the United States in her classroom (I can buy that, seriously, you can discuss-debate with respect, we all know that) but I initially thought "man, she really missed a teaching moment" but as Bruce just made me realize, she's clueless! It hadn't occurred to me that she didn't understand! She missed the fact that she could have taught the SOCIAL STUDIES kids the founding premise of our freaking government because SHE DOESN'T KNOW! Oops.

You are exactly right, but unfortunately I think teachers like yourself may be in the minority.
