Abuielita coquita (Ruth) passed awayed from old age Friday night. She was a strong, kind of woman who gave of herself, always to help others. Her needs came in secondary. and she made sure nobody was hugry or unclothed. Her work with the church gave her a vehicle to help the less fortunate, and she made sure to teach english to those who did not speak it as a way to better themselves.

She was married to my grandfather for sixty years, and they raised two daughters and three sons. My grandmother sat at home as her three boys were sent to fight in Korea. Every night she would pray/cry herself to sleep hoping her heavenly father would bring them home. The endless sufferings a mother must endure. Her prayers were answered, and they all came home. (I heard it was customary to leave one of the sons home so the family name does not end with all of the sons, but back then, all the boys were sent if you were hispanic).

My grandmother drew beautiful Japanese art, and this is where my love of Eastern things came. Abuelita(grandma) went to a segregated school along with some Japanese kids, so she had a lot to teach me about Eastern philosophy. Thus my love for the Eastern ways. Things have a way of spreading. Bad thing can turn into good things.

Any thoughts, prayers , or meditations would be appreciated for my abuelita Ruth. There is no doubt where she is going. She was a true mother Teressa. I will try to honor your teachings grandma.

Psalm 116:15: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Not tragic, but precious. When my grandma was passing away, she went into a sort of coma for several hours and then opened her eyes and said "It's a beautiful place." Those were the last words she spoke.

Ancestor veneration is the traditional religion in China. In this belief your grandmother lives on, in a different place, surrounded by the other members of your family who have also left this world. Her power is greater now than before and when you remember her respectfully that power will come to you. In this way she will never really be gone. Be well.

Very sorry for your loss! She sounds like an amazing woman, no doubt she's happy with her life. Sounds like you have her sense of others before self and love of tradition. I hope you and your family take some solace in this time of grief knowing that she's smiling down on you. Take care brother,

    Cory
