OK, time to brag a little. Last night was my little girls graduation for her Associate in Arts degree. She has worked very hard and achieved this while still in high school (graduated both in the last two weeks). In addition to graduating Summa Cum Laude (with highest academic honors), She also earned an academic prize for maintaining a 4.0 throughout her studies, pretty select group as only a handful of students earned the distinction. The award includes a small cash scholarship.

While studying her dual enrollment classes like English Comp, Chemistry, and French, she also took and passed 10 CLEP/DSST exams such as Biology, Algebra, American Lit with essay, and American Government. She earned the FEMA PDS as well, though it didn't count for credit at her school.

Last night was really one of life's highlights. Delightful girl with great promise, she makes me very proud to be her Dad!

Brag away dude!!!! You both have every right to brag. She was also lucky to have you as her father. She had a good example to follow.

Congratulations to your daughter. Is she going to continue on to her four year degree and, if so, where?

Congrats! What a special night. As a family man, I'm always in when someone wants to brag on their kid.

She plans to start Harvard Extension in the fall....I approve/agree but keep reminding her that there are plenty of great state schools! All things considered HES is a great choice for her.

As an aside, if she's into that sort of program she may also want to consider Georgetown University's Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, which has a number of different concentration (majors by any other name):

    • American studies
    • Catholic studies
    • Classical civilizations
    • Communications
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Humanities
    • International affairs
    • Leadership
    • Literature and society
    • Organizational leadership
    • Religious studies
    • Social/public policy
    • Theory and practice of American democracy
    • Urban analysis and community development

I suggest them in part because they accept CLEP.

Now that is coolio!!!!!! She might as well get the brand name recognition. It can't get any better than that.

Thanks everyone, I (we) really appreciate your warm wishes.

Harvard has been a dream of hers for awhile, she likes the idea of the challenge. She would apply the traditional route, and has the grades for it, but as we understand the admissions game there she would lose two years of work (Harvard College isn't friendly to transfers). So, HES becomes sort of a side door to the high level of instruction she seeks...and a little of the Harvard branding never hurt. :)

For my part I am pleased she can pursue the bulk of her studies form right here in Fla. with just enough of an on campus residency to keep it real and interesting. Though, we do talk of letting her move up there for her senior year...work somewhere by day, finish up the degree by night. We will see.

I'm thrilled such an option, at such an attractive price, exists. It will likely end up cheaper than the great rates of an in State Florida school. Just a win-win all around.....assuming she gets in of course!
