At least five poeople are dead after a gunman opened fire at Oikos University, a Christian school in Oakland, Calif., this morning.
According to police the gunman fired multiple shots in the school at 10:33 a.m. Police have not said how many people were killed or wounded, but aerial video from the scen shows five bodies laid out under sheets on the school lawn.
Police described the suspect as an Asian male, 5-foot-9, wearing tan pants, according ABC station KGO-TV in San Francisco.
Although police have reportedly detained one person, it is unclear if that person was the gunman or if there was a continued threat on campus.
One witness described a chaotic scene in the moments after the shooting. Brian Snow was at a nearby credit union, when he first heard the shots and saw a vicitim run out of the building.
"I just heard more gunshots. A lady came out running and she had blood on her arm, but I didn't know how bad the wound was," Snow told KGO Radio. "She was just trying to make sure everyone was safe and took off her jacket and she had a big old hole in her arm."
Oikos University is a Christian university that focuses on nursing. The school's website describes students as "given the opportunity to obtain a Christian education that is based on solid Christian doctrine and ideology. Our main goal is to foster spiritual Christian leaders who abide by God's intentions and to expand God's nation through them."

Damn it! He's Korean. What is it with these cooky Korean's shooting up college campuses? Must be an epidemic. Since the shooter is not white, we can assume the usual race baiters won't be around to ask for heads to roll. I will hold back my outrage at his tragedy until I find out the race of the victims so I know who to pander to when my faux sympathy/outrage kicks in.

Right...just like "white" Hispanics and "white" South Americans and "white" Native Americans and "white" Irish...oh wait. Scratch that last one.

 

In addition to the tragedy -- about 10% of the entire student body murdered -- the press seems to be confused about the nature of the school: California approved (not "state authorized" or "state accredited" as two accounts have it.) Some might think it a bit presumptuous for a school with fewer than 100 students to be a "university." The SF Chronicle notes that Shepherd University (in one account, "Shepherds") shares the phone number and the address.

Serving Port Clinton, Ohio | portclintonnewsherald.com Apparently, there are seven dead (five died at the scene and two more died in hospital) and three wounded. The paper also reported that the shooter was a former student of the university.

 

The university caters to the Asian population.

 

I've paid no attention to this so forgive my ignorance . . . is it at all relevant that it's a "Christian school?"

 

Maybe the shooter subscribed to some Asian religion (or maybe he was an atheist) and maybe he hated Christians.

 

And maybe he was possessed by zombie aliens. It would have been equally accurate to say, "Gunman opens fire at California college." Does it matter that it was a Christian school? Just curious.

 

There are numerous conspiracy theories one could come up with. The Port Clinton News-Herald article I cited said the shooter was a former student there. Maybe he was pissed off about washing out.

 

In today's Port Clinton News-Herald, the director of the nursing program thinks that she was the real target. Oakland police think that another school administrator was the real target.

Yesterday's (April 5, 2012) USA Today www.usatoday.com carried a page three article saying that the director of the nursing program thought she was the real target. The shooter, a former student, was upset that he couldn't get a full refund on his tuition.

 

Its terrorism when the killer targets innocents in order to achieve a political end. The state department lists the following organizations as terrorists.
