Who has em? Where? What? How many? I have finally decided to take the plunge and get my first something simple but very personal that I drew (wasn't hard!) and I can't decide where to get it! Ideally I want to be able to cover it up so thinking top of foot, upper arm or upper thigh or possibly lower ankle/leg area. So spill the beans! What spot hurts the most? How do you think people view tats today? Would you be off put by a therapist who had a visible tattoo even if it was a very small one and nothing offensive? I drew a simple heart design with 3 hearts going down one side connected to the larger heart each a different color to represent my husband, the child we lost, and my son Greyson. My little boy (4.5) wrote the word love for me and I am going to have his handwriting tattooed right beside the heart. Thoughts?
Bony areas (e.g. ankles) reportedly hurt more, fleshy areas aren't so bad. Dark colors, often used for outlines, tend to last. Light colors tend to fade. I had a small sun tattoo on my upper back, just below the shoulder, all yellow, no outline. It lasted about 7 or 8 years before fading. I can't even tell it was there anymore.
I've got one. #2 is scheduled for the spring. Anything close to the bone hurts more (ankles, spine, etc.) Those head tattoos must hurt a lot.
I still can't decide where I want the darn thing! Hoping the shop will use the stencil and put it in a few places so I can decide....Where is your 1 located?
It's on my back at the base of my neck. Hidden while at work, jumps out at the beach. Psychology and wellbeing - Tattoo regret is common Tattoos and Piercings Go Mainstream, but Risks Continue : Northwestern University Newscenter
I have the insignia of the Army's 1st Infantry Division on my right shoulder; In the Army, if you served in combat with a unit, you're allowed to wear the insignia of that unit on your right sleeve for the rest of your career, regardless of what unit(s) you serve with subsequently....it's known as the "combat patch". My National Guard unit was attached to the 1st Infantry Division for the Gulf War (1990-91), so that's my combat patch. I'm actually authorized 3 combat patches....the 1st Infantry Division, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the 18th MP Brigade, but I spent the most time by far with the 1st Infantry Division, so that's what I chose for my tattoo. Unless you see me at the beach, you'd never know it's there even with short sleeves, and it has special meaning for me, so I've never regretted getting it.
I don't think I will have regret. I have wanted a tat for almost 10 years now but didn't want something someone else had. Oh and by the way I have had my tongue pierced for almost 11 years, no regret even today and no current plans to remove it.
3 now (1on forearm, 2on bicep), #s 4 &.5 are coming in March. One will be eye of horus on wrist, other one will likely be ankh with english translated into hieroglyphs surrounding the ankh.... Going on other forearm. Love tats (wife doesn't )...
Our middlest daughter had two modest ones on her left forearm. In her career #1 as a chef, no problem. But when she entered career #2, late 30s, as an RN, she learned that none of the four largest hospitals in Portland allow nurses to have any visible tattoos. So she uses long sleeves or Bandaids or makeup and is thinking seriously of having them removed (which is neither cheap nor fast). On the other hand, when our eldest daughter got married, in lieu of exchanging rings, she and her husband removed bandages at the wedding to display large colorful intricate matching tattoos. 20 years later, they're still married...and she has had one 'big' job after another in the publishing world (and added quite a few more over the years), but the nose ring went away when she entered graduate school.
My plan is to have all 8 auspicious symbols on my back. It will probably take me a long time because I'm doing it in conjunction with feeling like I actually know something serious about what the symbol really means. Enlightenment is a bitch.
I might be the only biker on earth that has no tattoos nor do I plan on ever having any. That said, I have some rockin' scars...
