    The Pie Thread

My favorite is sweet potato- I have one in the oven as I am typing this, my own recipe ;) I seem to share a story with many others in that the first time I had it, I nearly shouted for the whole room to hear "this is the best pumpkin pie I have ever had!" Boy was that embarrassing... anyway, like everything else I appreciate in life, I just HAD to figure out how to make one myself. Despite the fact that I don't eat sweets myself these days (I haven't for about 7 years), it is nice to make one for friends now and again- which, awesomely enough, allows me to smell and taste-test a little bit of it as I go along, even though I'm not going to have a slice of it when it is done

So, what is your favorite pie, why, and what's your personal pie story?

I'm not much on sweets (I gain a pound just driving by a bakery), but on Thanksgiving I'll indulge myself with a piece of pecan pie, which goes awesome with post-dinner coffee (although I no longer drink coffee).

I made a blackberry pie for Thanksgiving. I was told it was quite good. While they were busy eating blackberry pie I was eating pumpkin pie (with a little vanilla ice cream on the side).

We have a restaurant/bakery in Fort Worth called Ginger Browns that is famous for pies and cinnamon rolls. I'm telling you if ever there was a 3,500 calorie cinnamon roll they have it and it's as delicious as you might imagine. Anyhow we were talking about pies and I got side tracked (it's morning now so you understand).

Her pies are the best thing I've ever put in my face and I've never seen pies so tall. They must stand 9 inches in height from all the whip cream and whatnot. Soooooo good. In fact I think I might swing by today.

To make an awesome pie and not even have one piece? What kind of masochist are you? I try to eat very little sweets myself, but I can't imagine making a pie and then not having at least one piece.

I love all pie: apple, cherry, pumpkin, sweet potato, etc. When I live in NC there was a Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at church. There were 4 different styles of sweet potato pie - I was in so happy!

My wfie makes an awesome cherry/blueberry pie and I can post the recipe if anyone is interested.

My pie story. Way back, when I was Director of Advertising for the Midas Muffler Shops, there was much talk about applying the considerable franchise-running skills to a new franchise. Lots of sitting around having serious and sometimes silly talks about what field. The three finalists were pies and haircuts and waterbeds (then brand new). As it happened, one Midas VP came from Peoria, where, he said, there was the world's greatest pie shop. We all drove down from Chicago, and stuffed our faces with pies of all kinds at the John Nero Pie Shop. They were terrific. Talks were held. Deals were made. Focus groups suggested that the "John Nero" name was not a good one; that people expected pie shops to be named for women. (Marie Callender was just in formation at that time.) A naming company was engaged. Somehow the name "Virginia Hardy's Oven" was selected. Around that time, Midas became involved in a stock proxy battle for control of the company, and it ended up being owned by the Illinois Central Railroad, which had no interest in pies. Exit Virginia Hardy. Some of us Midas execs left and tried to start a waterbed franchise ("Innerspace Environments"). Struggled for a couple of years, then faded away. Another group of Midas execs left and started SuperCuts and they are now all zillionaires. Such is life, after pies.

I didn't expect to, but eeeeh. Tonight happened to be the one night out of one hundred that I actually ate some sweetness. It was just a sliver, just a taste, because I was just too curious about how it came out. It came out amazing!

How did "The Pie Thread" get a sticky? lol!

I love rhubarb pie enough to probably break my no-sugar rule to taste it once again. However... seriously... what the heck is a rhubarb?!

Well, I figured that since the Beer Thread was given a sticky, the Pie Thread deserved a sticky too.

Pecan pie is my favorite. And I also like to eat meat pies, especially when I'm in the UK.
