Periodically I clean out my bookmarks and in doing so I ran into this youtube video of Natalie Portman, probably my favorite actress. I think it's from a SNL skit but I don't really watch that show so I'm not sure. I found this to be hilarious and thought I'd post it here before I toss the bookmark into the great abyss of the interwebs. Warning: This is not safe for work. It is not safe for kids. This is Natalie goin gangsta. Natalie Portman Uncensored Rap lyrics - YouTube
Taste is a pretty personal and subjective thing, so don't take this for picking on anyone. That clip of Portman may be hard to understand outside of its context. At the time, Portman was considered a high-profile, high-class young actress on a rapid Hollywood ascent-- someone willing to take on risky roles for artistic prestige. Thus, to have her break down and do vulgar rap is a bit of a sardonic take on what was her accepted image at the time. I thought the clip pretty funny, myself, but not something I would hang onto forever-- especially since the context has faded so quickly. You'd probably have to be either a hardcore Portman fan or a severe Star Wars geek to hang on to that one-- and people in those categories likely have captured the file itself and stored it away anyway.
I suppose one can maintain most any vulgarism and christen it artistic, creative, risk taking, comedy, satirical, etc, etc. etc. Nonetheless, whatever the reasoning and/or rationalization behind the video clip link and its subsequent posting … I consider the video no more than crude profanity masquerading as humor and unbefitting as a posting on a distance learning discussion board … inappropriate even if veiled as off-topic discussion.
