I got a Kindle for Christmas and have become addicted...the sad part is I have the one with the keyboard, not even the Fire. It's funny because I haven't read a fiction novel/paper back in years (5 or more) pretty much relegating myself to business books, self improvement books and text books but this last weekend I picked up my Kindle, ordered a cheapie paper back book (though technically it's a Kindle book) from one of my favorite authors from when I was a teenager and haven't been able to put the thing down.

Now I have to get the Kindle Fire since I'd be able to do all my social media stuff plus read with a backlit display. Anyhow, anyone here have a Kindle? What do you think of it?

My only wish is that I could trade back my paper based books and get a Kindle version in exchange. That would eliminate stacks of books around my house for sure.

I have the regular Kindle (no keyboard). I prefer it this way, as I didn't want the Fire. My kids are electronically-savvy, and I didn't want them to commandeer a Fire. I wanted the non-keyboard Kindle because I wanted a smaller size (but the screen is the same as the keyboard Kindle, which is good). I also have a case with a reading light, so that eliminates the problem of backlighting. A backlit display can strain the eyes.

I have an iPhone, so I do social media on that.

We got a Kindle Fire for our daughter, and she absolutely loves it.

As Dirty Harry once said, "A man has to know his limitations", so I haven't played around with it, as I know I'd probably become addicted and have to get one for myself.

My Mom got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and since I'm her tech support, that means I've had to get it connected to her wireless, etc. I'm not sure it's the one I'd get were I getting an e-reader for myself, but she's enjoying tinkering around with it.

I have the large Kindle. The Kindle Fire which I would love to have is not available in Australia. I use it all the time. It is great to be able to get books no matter where you are. I am finding that I am reading some "classics" now which is something I thought I would never do.

The kindle has revolutionised books and will make a huge difference to the cost in the future (one would hope). It also gets rid of the storage issue and frees up space. School /Public libraries may be very different in a few years. Maybe electronic?
I can see kindles replacing school texts. You could have the kindle and rent the texts for each year. You can probably do that now with all the devices there are, but the "grey scale" screen makes a big difference in reading. Maybe a big effect on distance learning?
Anyway, in the interim, I just enjoy it. Reading is a pleasure and I can now take a library with me whereever I go.

I got a Kindle this summer - was the "new" version but, now, the Kindle Fire has come out. Considering switching over to it - but, my little Kindle suits my needs just find. I also have case with a light so, I can read in the dark. One of my favorite things about kindle is that you can share books! I also love the $.99 books. They are usually quick reads. I think the Kindle community is great because we can easily share what we have read and rate books, too!

I saw that Apple is releasing an iBook with the intent of soliciting the textbook market heavily and supporting multimedia with it. That might be cool. Although I will say the biggest advantage the Kindle has is that I do not feel like I'm looking at a computer screen, it feels like I'm reading a paperback, which I personally prefer.
