Well, if you weren't at Ida Noyes Hall in Chicago on October 28, you too missed the UChicago Conference on Jersey Shore Studies.

The keynote: "Monetization of Being: Reputational Labor, Brand Culture, and Why Jersey Shore Does, and Does Not, Matter."

And it mattered enough for a full program of topics that followed, just a few highlights being "The Construction of Guido Identity," "Foucault's Going to the Jersey Shore, Bitch!," "Situating the Situation: Psychogeography, Mimetic Desire, and the Resurgent Indo-European Trifunctional Paradigm in Seaside," and "'You Dirty Little Hamster!' The Abject and the Monstrous Feminine in Jersey Shore."

The University of Chicago is a world-ranked private non-profit university, noted for its strength in free-market economics.

As long as taxpayer money isn't funding Jersey Shore anything, I say "Cabs Here!!! Oh yeah... Cabs here!"
