those poor bambinos, away from their moms and forced to actually do stuff... suck it up freshmen! The Colleges With The Most Unhappy Freshmen
Are they serious? I was barely 15 when I was dropped off at a military high school in Virginia (totally deserved) where there was a strict code of conduct, a highly structured/disciplined environment, there were no girls, no frat/dorm parties, and practically no freedom other than you could leave campus on Sunday morning to attend a church service besides the on-campus chapel service. And they're going to bitch about college????
That's funny. When I was their age, I was unhappy about the fact that I was working two minimum wage jobs with unfathomable hours, was uninsured with several cumbersome health problems, could not afford any type of job training program much less college or even a CLEP and did not have a stable place of residence. Of course, if I were to experiencing that today, I'd turn on the radio to hear what a loser in life that I am and that I'm not worthy of a helping hand from anyone because I OBVIOUSLY chose to live like that.
My good friend had some rough times in college trying to make ends meet and study at the same time. He always told me that when things were bad, he could always remind himself that its not as bad as being in the infantry. The stories he told me of 14 days in the field doing maneuvers with no shower for the duration and eating MREs, sleeping on the mud in the rain, combatting mosquitos, chiggers and all forms of infestation like crotch rot really made college look like a breeze.
I had to google this term after reading your comment. I always called it jock itch and in fact, probably like most guys, I've had it more than once... but calling it "crotch rot" creates a particularly grotesque mental image. One that probably is fitting for life on the battle field, where Tinactin is something that they can only dream about. I know that fungal infections can become unbearable if untreated... goodness... I'm glad I've never been in a warzone.
It seems that these freshmen have not been trained to be independent by their parents. College is not a bed of roses but should be seen as a training ground for future life.
