So earlier this week I experienced my first earthquake. I was sitting in my classroom with two of my colleagues from Pennsylvania when everything started shaking, and we didn't know what the hell was going on. Earthquakes aren't really your everyday happening in Virginia... Now Ms. Irene is heading our way, and we're being told it's going to be worse than Isabel which hit back in 2003. My wife is getting nervous, but I'm trying to tell her we can just ride it out. Yeah, we're close to the Chesapeake Bay and Rappahannock River, but not close enough that we'll be caught in a storm surge or anything. She's worried about the pine trees near our house falling. Anyone else here readying for the storm? -Matt
Having lived in SoCal for a number of years, I got used to earthquakes so the one we just had was not that bad. Still a good one for your first. Never been in a hurricane, so I am bit worried about this one. Stay safe!
We felt the quake very well. However, I have yet to feel any of the aftershocks. My colleagues out in Louisa and Charlottesville, however, are feeling every one of them! -Matt
There's a hurricane coming to my neighborhood soon. Some people are buying extra batteries and some are going surfing. I rented a couple of movies. If the power goes out I may be out of touch for a bit.
