So after shopping around for a mattress, and being that I have never purchased a mattress in all of my adult life, I am very concerned!!! I just bought a Temperpedic Cloud (Cal King) for $3,700 bucks, and I can't believe that I spent that much on a freaking mattress!!! The whole situation makes me sick, lol.
I second the notion placed by Kizmet, I'd like to know how you feel about the purchase after having slept on it a while. In the meantime think the following things and maybe it won't be so bad. 1. You spend 8 hours a day on the mattress. 2. If you're in a relationship with the right person the mattress has a lot of joy built into it. Personally, I can see spending on four things and everything else should be gotten at a discount store. Those things are: 1. A good solid house - but not elaborate. 2. An excellent quality bed/mattress 3. An education. 4. Shoes. When you think about what these four things do for someone, and how much time is spent on or using all of them.. makes sense.
Seven years ago, I purchased a memory foam mattress from Costco. I laid on a Temperpedic mattress when I was shopping around. The Costco mattress seemed very similar to me. The memory foam is most excellent to sleep on. You can fall asleep in one spot and never have to move the whole night. I find it very restful. I paid about one third the price of the name brand mattress.
Ha Ha, I almost pissed myself reading this. :lmao: I've actually already had this mattress for a month now, what made me think of it now was because the invoice just got mailed too me today. The first couple of weeks I had it, it felt like I sleeping on a brick. VERY FIRM and uncomfortable. But it is starting to SLOWLY break in, but it is still not as plush and soft as the one in the store. The only real compliant I have is that I sleep very warm, so I often wake up in the middle of the night a peal the covers back because I'm baking inside. Outside of that, its much better than my old mattress, I'm just not totally convinced it was worth $3,700 bucks. . . .
I did the free trial with them and sent it back...way to hot. Ending up spending about the same on a Sterns and Foster.
Was looking for a new mattress not too long ago and was considering a Temperpedic like mattress (actually the Bob-o-pedic for those of you in the northeast.) The salesman warned me that if you tend to be warm at night, you will feel like you are burning up in a this one. He also mentioned that if you have a doctor's prescription, insurance will often pay for the mattress. Just FYI.
1.) Dentists 2.) Surgeons and Doctors 3.) Guns for self defense 4.) Birth control 3 things never to skimp on.
Exactly what I have...sterns and foster except I only paid 950 bucks total for a king size and full size set (should have cost me about 6k) I found a Macy's outlet type place here in KC and stole them. They still had the plastic around them etc and we have had them for about 9 months and they rock!
There was another mattress called the "Envy" which was a memory foam bed, but the difference was that small wholes throughout the mattress so it ventilated better and slept cooler. The only reason why I didn't go for it was because it was the same price and Temperpedic is a time tested name IMO. But man was it tempting, if the price was just a bit lower I may have given it a shot.
Let me ease your mind a little NorCal. My wife and I looked a Hastens bed awhile ago and were flabbergasted. They had one bed in there that was $35K, no joking!! The king of Sweden uses one of these. http://www.hastens.com/en/ Made out of horse hair, yeech.
