So this whole open source thing is on a roll. With the cost of textbooks so (ridiculously) high who is surprised that this is being pushed. After all, why should a buy a brand new Calculus text? Calculus hasn't changed in hundreds of years (good example from the article). Most intro texts don't change substantially. I have a great copy of Roberts "History of the World," a standard college text. It's a 1993 edition that I bought at a yeard sale. It's a great book. Comprehensive, easy to read and make a hell of a good doorstop. Is the 1995 edition really so much better? You get the idea.
