Found out Friday that if all goes according to plan we will be moving to Seattle 1st of October possibly end of September and I am over the moon! I can't wait to go and explore someplace I have never been and from what I know of it I am going to love it there!

The only downside is that I start my masters on the 29th of August so we will be moving while that is going on but I am sure it will be fine as I will just work ahead as much as I can so I don't have to worry about it during the move.

If anyone is from Seattle (lives there) or has been that I would love to hear from you :)

    Congratulations!! How exciting!
We hail from Victoria, BC - been to, and through, Seattle countless times.
Do you know in which area of Seattle you'll be?

I resided in the Greater Seattle area from August 1986 to ASugust 2001 and loved it. At that time, Seattle had 55 used bookstores.

While I do not live in Seattle, I have visited several times over the years and still try to make an annual trip out that way (to see Seattle, Portland, etc.). If you don't mind sharing (as another poster asked), do you know what district you're headed to? There are a number of great sights, bookstores, etc. The food in town isn't half bad either!

Best of luck with your move!

We have a service territory area that my husband will be working in and most likely we will pick some place close to the middle and stay! His company will have a contract with Puget Sound Energy (electric) and so everywhere they have electric service he will have to go at some point. I looked at their map and I am thinking somewhere around North Bend, WA or someplace South or East of Seattle by about 30 minutes will be where we land as their service territory is quite large and spread out. Normally we would move at least once during a contract but this one is only going to be about a year.

I have already told my husband to expect me to fall in love and not want to leave....lol We have not quite decided where to make our home base but from what I have heard/read/seen I am going to be in love there :)

Would love to hear any thing you guys know about the area and bookstores are high on our list of places we go often.

Ted- I would love to hear about your experience there :)

    Hey Elia,

I had some friends move to Seattle from Cali. They love it over there. I am sure you will too.

I have family in Puyallup, while maybe a bit to south of where you might want to be its a beautiful place. Also, have friends in Maple Valley and Issaquah who love both places. My nephew and his girlfriend live in the Capitol Hill area, in a funky old hip apartment.

It's a beautiful city with lots of diversity and opportunity.

Welcome to the long suffering pain of a Seattle sports fan as well. Ugghhhh, Mariners.:angryfire:

It is a great perk that comes with the hubs jobs...well that and the income he makes....but their are drawbacks as well now that we have the wee one to think about. But no plan to stop anytime soon unless we see that it is affecting Greyson in a bad way. I can't wait to move and I am so excited!!!!!

But gosh it is VERY expensive to move that way...5-7k just to move out there

Someone else told me about Maple Valley! I will have to check out the other places you mentioned. I think this might be a hard move as far as finding a place to rent and figuring out what neighborhoods are safe and good....but I can't wait to move out that way.

As for sports...well the only sport I like is hockey and even then I don't really care about it just tolerate it when the other half is viewing.

I have a college buddy who grew up in Maple Valley. Went to visit him once. It's really a beautiful place.

I was in Seattle for two weeks on business in the late 90's. I thought it was great. I actually took a trip to the mountains on the weekend and to my surprise there was an old train caboose on the side of the road about 75 miles from the next nearest...well...anything and it was converted to a coffee stand. Of course I stopped for a coffee.

My best friend lives there. We became friends when we were 12 and I chose not to ditch him when he went all Obama supporting liberal on me. He has a condo in west Seattle and that s a nice part of the city, I also like the area around the Univ of Washington.
I enjoy going to visit once every year or two, it's a nice city even if it's too liberal for me to tolerate in large doses.
