Our resident Maniac is - again - 100% correct. The avatar is a plain old animated .gif. Now if you want to roll-your-own, that's also free (and reasonably easy.) There's even a (gasp!) FREE MICROSOFT PROGRAM to make 'em with! This is one of quite a few places you can download it from -- and no, I have no relationship with the site -just the result of random Googling!
