Our local fireworks are tonight. It's always a fun show. Here's the plan - first we'll have dinner (carrot soup, tomatos provencal, chicken parmigiana - how's that Jennifer?), followed by the fireworks (about 9:30 pm) followed by a "Millennium Trilogy" marathon. I'll be surprised if I make it through the second movie but there will be extra pillows on the livingroom floor so there's no worries. If I'm lucky there will also be some beachtime later in the weekend but the forecast for Sunday is not so good. Sorry you're working airtorn. Hopefully you'll make up for it some other time.
Thank you, Kizmet. On July 4th, we danced to the music of Issacher Bates, who played the fife for his idol, George Washington during the Revolutionary War, but later gave up the army and became a pacifist, a Shaker, and quite a well-known composer of peace songs ("Change of Heart," "Rites of Contentment," etc.). Once again, I note that many of the local fireworks stands here in California are run by the Lion's Club . . . whose main charity is providing eye care for children, more than a few of whom, I suspect, have achieved their eye injuries courtesy of Lion's Club fireworks.
We had fireworks around here, and this is wildfire country. We watched the fireworks displays (four of them can be seen from our house - one near downtown, one north of downtown, one east of downtown, and one over Tempe Town Lake - if any of you are familiar with the Phoenix area). This was the first 4th of July where fireworks (that you can buy and set off) were legal in AZ, so we had to get some and set them off. That was our first time setting off fireworks. They were pretty amazing! Hope you all had a great 4th!
