As my education is winding down (sort of) I began crunching the numbers to see where I stand financially. Provided I do not continue my education further, which is unlikely, my out of pocket is very minimal considering I graduated from one of the top community colleges in the country, and I transferred to a private university at $490 per credit/unit.

    Community College Tuition= $2,800
GI Bill paid out around = $4,500
    ------------------------------------
Associates Degree cost me = $-1,700
    ------------------------------------
    Private College Tuition = $12,500
GI Bill Paid out around = $8,900
    ------------------------------------
    Bachelors Degree cost me $3,600
    ------------------------------------
    Minus $1,700

My total education has run me $2,100 thus far. (Gawd love the GI Bill)

Those are some good looking numbers. I'm glad the GI Bill is working for you.

I used previous version of the GI Bill (ACF and VEAP) to pay for my undergraduate degree. I obtaind a teaching assistantship for graduate school that waived all tuition and provided a small but adequate stipend. I recognize my field was chemistry and not all fields of study have this option, but it might be worth looking into.

I finished up with an MS in chemistry and no debt. No savings either (smile), but not a bad place to start.

That's great, people who are in the Armed Forces should get extras like that. With great risks should be great rewards.
