Pat Parker, chair of the Admissions Section (ADSEC) of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, has just announced that Projects for International Education Research (PIER), a joint committee of NAFSA & the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) will be disbanded. There will be no future PIER projects, and those currently in the pipeline will be finished as soon as possible. It looks as if both NAFSA and AACRAO will publish their own books on international education systems (which both have done in the past and AACRAO has continued to do even after the establishment of PIER) without the coordination function provided by PIER. So, perhaps GAAP will need to be changed to say something about schools listed in books published by AACRAO, NAFSA, PIER or the Joint Committee on Workshops (JCOW, a predecessor to PIER).
