I am travelleing on business in Virginia. I've got to say this is one of friendliest places I have visited. Love it! Abner
No, it really isn't -- I've heard it described as though Connecticut were grafted onto the side of South Carolina. But there are nice people here. (Well, a few, maybe.) -=Steve=-
Oh I like DC, wasn't trying to bash it, it's just not the south. I like your analogy. Abner, if you get a chance while you're in Richmond head out to Hollywood cemetery. A lot of history there. Check out the Confederate White House as well, the tour is definitely interesting. Enjoy your stay, Richmond is a nice little city.
Virginia is truly a beautiful state. I lived in Fredericksburg while stationed in Quantico. My oldest daughter was a Richmond Spider University of Richmond. Virginia, a historical piece of the Old South...
Most beautiful campus I've ever stepped foot on and I've been on a lot. Also one of the most expensive schools in the country. I hope she was on scholarship!
Thanks for the invite Hey Tekman, and the others who emailed me invitations for a met. I won't be making my way into NoVA. I will be tied up here in Richmond pretty much all day, then I fly out tomorrow. I think I have to take three planes to get home! No direct flight from SoCal to the South or return. Thanks though! Abner
There is definitely something charming about the south, southern hospitality is an awesome attribute. Being born and raised in California, I remember when I first got stationed in the south how amazed I was at how friendly everyone was. Just normal everyday people, complete strangers, walking along and bidding everyone hello or good morning.
Some might even argue that Virginia isn't even "the south." Of course, as a native Virginian, I'd disagree with that. -Matt
Oh, I think RoVa ("Rest of Virginia") starts a lot further up than that. I'd say Fairfax County and Eastern Loudoun County are clearly Northern Virginia, that the rest of Loudoun County and Prince William and Stafford Counties are a sort of cultural buffer zone, and everything beyond that can still safely be called Southern. -=Steve=-
Perhaps we should move this discussion to the "Geographically Challenged" thread. :scratchchin: I live in the Northern Neck. We're definitely in the south. -Matt
