My hyperactive nephew set up a wireless security code password for me years ago. He did it so fast, I didn't even know he did it. Hence, I did write the password. So here is my quandary. I am trying to set up my wireless stuff on my new acer netbook, but it is asking for a password. What do I do? What is the easiest way? Abner
Are you sure the password your nephew used is different than the one that was preset? Many times wireless routers will have the access code printed on a sticker underneath the unit.
Look up the model of wireless router online. You'll find the vendor site likely has the user manual and a software download that allows set up for the router out of box. Every router has a hard reset button to bring it back to factory. Once you have the user manual and software you should be able to set up the router again and set a new WEP or WPA password which is what your wireless setup on the laptop is looking for. Yes it's a pain in the rear. What you're looking for is the WEP or WPA password. What General is referring to is the router password itself. Different item (unless I'm misunderstanding)
My 2wire and Linksys units both have the encryption password, not the router password, on the bottom of the unit.
Just reset your router setting, which include the security setting as well. Just follow instruction of your router...most of the router manual can be found on the manufacture website. Good Luck
