For long-time degreeinfo readers: Was Maxine Asher actually right about Atlantis?

I seem to remember Maxine Asher, proprietress of the unwonderful World Association of Universities and Colleges and the equally unwonderful American World University, as claiming to have discovered Atlantis off the coast of Spain some years back.

But -- could it be -- there appeared today an article claiming that credible researchers think they have found Atlantis as a result of the tsunami activity and it appears they're talking about the same area, off the coast of Spain.

Does anyone remember details about where Maxine said it was? Could she have been right all along?

I thought the Greeks, perhaps Sophocles, said it was off the coast of Spain just passed the Pillars of Hercules...? Maybe these new researchers are just pulling a Heinrich Schliemann?

  3. Wierdly, just last night I was reading one passage in Plato about Atlantis as part of a larger reading assignment.

The passage states that the island of Atlantis was "situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Hercules; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put together." Further: "The men of Atlantis had subjected the parts of Libya within the columns of Heracles as far as Egypt, and of Europe as far as Tyrrhenia." But finally: "There occurred vast earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your warlike men in a body sank into the earth, the island of Atlantis in like manner disappeared in the depths of the sea."

    Wikipedia gives some good background:
