Please help me make a list of movies

OK, I was just posting to MC that I'm really looking forward to seeing Battle: Los Angeles. I might not be able to see it in the theatre because it's so damn expensive these days but here's the thing: I LOVE movies about the end of the world.

APOCALYPSE!!! I want tidal waves, bio-plagues, hurricanes, volcanoes, nuclear explosions, meteors, alien invasions and...if it's at all possible...I want them all at once. I want total chaos, destruction and pandemonium.

C'mon degreeinfo! Help me to create a list of movies where the world ends (or at least there's a threat).

Here's my first offering: "On The Beach" It was made in 1959 and was based on a novel by Nevil Shute. It's notable for it's great cast but more importantly, EVERY HUMAN ON THE PLANET ACTUALLY DIES! Fantastic! There's no last minute heroics that save the day. No immune survivors. Just total death.

Next is a different sort of movie. I'm talking about "Armageddon." Made in 1998 this movie is lighter, funnier and you know that somehow the world isn't really going to end. Still, it's got "end of the world" written all over it and so it's on my list.

I've got plenty more but I'd like to get your recommendations.

To answer the question you posed to me in the other thread: I couldn't name for you even a single movie that is coming out, nor any movie that has come out within the past year or so. The last movie I ever saw in the theater was Hitch (eh, my friends made that decision; it was also the first movie I had seen in about two years at that point). The last movie that I ever saw was The Dark Knight on DVD, I don't even remember how long ago. That film made me realize that superhero movies are way too violent for my ever-growing conscience.

Hehe, I just pooped on your party :nana:

I saw I Am Legend. It's a nice thriller, well-acted (It's Will Smith, ya know!). There's a surprise ending that never made it to the big screen version, but can be watched on the DVD. It's much better than the one that made it to the final cut.

EDIT: No wait, I saw Toy Story 3 on DVD. Not as good as the first two, but still a great addition to one of my favorite movie series ever!

2012 with John Cusak is a good example of an apocalypse movie. The only thing that's more improbable than disaster itself is the solution (and that anyone lives).

There was D-War from a couple of years back where dragons threaten total annihilation.

    Hey Kizmet,
I thought you might enjoy this site. The link brings you to the movies page which is broken down by decade for the most part. It shows just about every apocalyptic movie from just about every country ever made. Enjoy.
