I think I'm pretty close to having a BS from EC...here is what I have to date. 30 FEMA credits (will be washed if they can be used) 30 Andrew Jackson University Credits as follows --CJ 361 Criminology --CJ 412 Police Report Writing --CJ 463 Modern Terrorism --CM 220 Fundamentals of Speech --CM 365 Developing Critical Thinking Skills --EN 112 Composition II --GS 210 Earth Science --HI 231 American History I --HI 232 American History II --PS 150 American Government 12 Clovis CC credits --REL 202 UG Women of the Bible --SOC 215 UG Child, Family / Community --PSY 101 Introductory Psychology --PSY 201 Child Psychology 3 Clovis CC credits (will take this summer) --PSY 106 Human Growth and Development 4 AIU credits (have 8 one is a D) --BAD 151 Introduction to Business 20 Penn Foster credits that are ACE reviewed (have 26 but other 6 are not ACE) --ACCT 201 Introductory Accounting I --ART 131 Art Appreciation --BAD 151 Introduction to Business --CIS 120 Intro to Applications Software --ENG 102 English Composition --ENG 103 Info Literacy 1 credit --BUS 100 Business Orientation 1 credit --MAT 106 Math for Bus and Fin 1 Clep exam 6 credits --Analyzing and Interpreting Literature So I was a little off on my guess earlier but if they take them all it would be 105 credits. I would need some more upper level course work I know, but can someone help me lay this out into a degree plan? Would a straight up BS in LS be better than a BS in LS with a major in CJ? I know this is a ton of work but I'm stuck and could use some help on this one.
I see Straighter Line offers a lot of lower level courses and will be offering more in the future. I could also pick some upper level up with LSU and Seminary Extension.
It looks like you are closer to a BA in Criminal Justice From TESC. For one, they accept FEMA credits directly, so it would save you a lot of money in the fees that you would have to pay to put them on a college transcript somewhere to transfer to Excelsior. Secondly, Excelsior requires a capstone course, whereas TESC does not. At first glance, I think you would save both time and money with TESC, despite the larger enrollment fees.
I'm just going from memory but it looks like you need 21 upper division units in non-professional courses. Some DSST exams were upper level but the DSST website does not list which ones they are at the moment (unless I missed it).
My understanding is that Excelsior will consider transfer credit from nationally accredited schools, but Charter Oak and TESC will not. If I'm wrong I'd love to be updated, though! -=Steve=-
From Excelsior (for the Basic BSLS) http://www.excelsior.edu/ecapps/faces/DegreeProgramController?action=detail&id=40 Minimum of 120 semester hours. Within that total, at least 60 semester hours must be earned in the arts and sciences with at least 21 of those 60 semester hours earned at the upper or advanced level. The remaining 60 semester hours, of which at least 9 must be earned at the upper or advanced level, may be earned in applied professional courses, additional arts and science courses, or a combination of both. Professional courses include Business, CJ, Engineering, Health Sciences, and ??? (The EC LS catalog is under revision and I deleted the one I had that defined professional courses). My guess is that FEMA units would be classified as professional units. My EC degree has around 40 in engineering and around 20 units in business.
