Can anyone think of a way I can arrange a bulk purchase of text books? I'm toying with the idea of doing a class with my homeschool co-op and I'd like to purchase about 10 books. Thing is, I can shop ebay for a good price but I can only get a few at a time, and it's hit or miss. If I use the college bookstore, it's jacked up so $$$$$. If I have each student buy the text, then I can't reuse it. Any thoughts?

*when I google "bulk textbooks" and "wholesale textbooks" I end up with international versions, and I'd rather not get into that, besides they are not much cheaper. Any thoughts?

P.S. I can do the class without books, but I'd like to explore this first.

When I went to high school, and even some college classes, there were no text books used except for an atlas. Teachers used to write everything on a blackboard and the students would copy it all down long hand into note books (I still use some of my college notebooks and I work as a rocket scientist).

Anyway why not write your own - combine PowerPoint presentations, non-copyrighted internet pages, and your own insight into a book - get it printed at a local discount copy store or through Lulu. Who knows maybe you can then sell it to other home school teachers (My estimate such a book/document would be about the same effort as taking a course at college.

What subject do you want to teach?

Just another thought but maybe you could buy last years edition textbooks from a local school district.

:question:cook, I thought you didn't like to teach kids.

This is a total shot in the dark, but my local homeschool supply shop is going out of business, and is running some very attractive clearance sales. Chances are they are already too cherry-picked for your purposes, but you might check.

Other than that, I'm clueless. We buy our stuff individually.

    Emissary pays attention. lol :)

If I join back up in the co-op, I'd have to teach a class. I'm thinking about a text since our meeting would be 1/week and brief- i think they do an hour. The rest of the week would involve them reading and whatever else. It's not a sure thing, I'm just considering it. It would be college prepish, something they could CLEP or AP test out of.

    Only when I'm awake, cook.

If you're looking for dual-credit or CLEP/AP-ish material, why not just surf Amazon/Ebay/Barnes and Noble for numerous used copies of REA books concerning the topic. I've been finding most of my REA stuff used for under 10 bucks, some of it for $2 or $3. US History I or II, Marketing, any of the free-clep-prep materials. Cheap, easy, and very digestible in short class times.

Can't go wrong with any of that, IMHO.
