I'm with you. This is so much better than the previous board. They're almost impossible to compare.

    Great job Chip and Bill!!!

What clock is the new format using? I am in GMT timezone, and at 1500 messages are appearing with the posting time of 5.00 p.m. or later.

    Forum Clock

It appears that the forum clock (GMT) is off by 3 hours. I have emailed an Administrator alerting him to this fact. It is inevitable that in an upgrade of this magnitude a few glitches are bound to occur.

    Good job and THANKS!

BTW, I really like your smilie panel. I'm afraid that I'll now become a smilie abuser.

I like the new look, however, I seem to get less messages per screen now and have to tab through page 1,2,3 etc these same threads used to show up as one long list. Is there an options somwhere for this?

    Thanks

    Re: Forum Clock

    I've had to reset the clock every time I've logged into the board. One time I have to choose local time in American Samoa, another Rio de Janerio, to get it to come up Pacific Standard. Very strange! Must be those avatars doing things when we're not watching. {g}

Bob--click on the first button on the top: USER CP. From there, choose options from the menu. You should be able to modify a number of the ways the board presents itself on your computer.

Thank ghod (and the new board) for the edit option!!!

    Bob,

Once you click on a thread, if you have previously been on that thread, you will see the following in the upper left corner:

Click on this and it will take you to the first post that you haven't read, thus you will bypass everything you've already read.

If there have been no new postings since you were last in that thread, then the above quote will not show up.

    Glitches...

Thanks for the kind words and for the comments and suggestions.

Yes, our eagle-eyed participants have noticed several little glitches, and I'm sure there are a few more out there that we haven't yet found.

The time was a mess because the new software, instead of simply calling the time setting "offset from server time" instead called each time setting by its actual name (Pacific, Mountain, Eastern European, etc). It took about 6 tries for me to figure out that, in fact, "GMT" means "Use the server time."

Since the server on which this site resides lives in North Carolina, it's maintained on East Coast time... and I opted to leave it there, since I think that's the way the old UBB was set. Besides, why should the board be west-coast centric? :)

And the page-length display is entirely flexible. Initially, we had it set for fewer threads per page, but I tweaked it and I think it's pretty close to what it was on the old UBB.

Many options can be customized by the user (choose user CP at the top). But for those that aren't, at some point, we'll probably do a poll on how users would like some of those options set And of course, suggestions and comments are always welcomed.
