DegreeInfo.com is "Unsatisfactory" -- so says popular internet watchdog Web of Trust.

Well, let me just say that I stopped using web of trust several months ago because I found their ratings to be unreliable. What makes the rankings particularly suspicious in the case of degreeinfo would be the low ranking in "vendor reliability," when DI does not sell anything, and "privacy" when, if you so like, all the information that you give to the community could be fictitious. For all I know, you really are Mr.President himself, resurrected. Then again, you might be Paris Hilton or the Numa Numa kid, I have no idea, so your privacy is intact.

For the chosen few (posters with over 500 posts per year let's say) a scientific study could come and say that DInfo causes cancer and the "chosen" would still post here.

Oh hell no, if a study shows DegreeInfo causes cancer you all are on your own!

Dr. Randell does not need access to this kind of list. :)

Well..their opinion is unsatisfactory... And opinions are like...noses, everyone has one :)

  10. It would be nice if everyone got the WOT plugin for Firefox and gave DI some good ratings. That's what I've done -- it is really easy. Many people put faith in WOT which means potentially losing out on some quality users.

My guess is our mill owner and mill apologist friends have stuffed the ballot box. If people want to add the WOT plugin and rate us honestly, it would be appreciated :)

  12. Now DI is rated as POOR and any WOT users will get a page warning you about DI before you enter. I think Chip might be right that this some kind of malicious attack.

FYI, online.degree.net (a DL forum similar, however much inferior to our own) has a low rating. When I used to use Web of Trust, I would always get those annoying warnings to close before I could see the page. It doesn't seem to be negatively affecting their popularity. Well, at least not as much as their dearth of content.

Judging from the fact that the ratings have continuously dropped (and dropped by a significant amount) in the couple of days I've been following it, I agree.

Another reminder that I have nothing whatever to do with this site. I started it in the mid 90s, Pearson purchased it in 1998, and later sold it to Ten Speed Press, which forgot to renew the URL, and it was 'hijacked' by a man on the island of Vanuatu, who subsequently sold it to the current owners. They keep using my name and some content without permission. Annoying, but at least they are relatively benign. --John Bear
