  1. What's the word for looking back at history as though everything has lead up to the now and the now is correct. It is a type of historical bias, particularly prevalent in the sciences. I can't for the life of me remember this....

I'm sure it is buried in one of these history and systems books I have laying around.

    Let a newbie try...

    retrospective?

  7. No, you're all wrong but probably due to my definition... There is a very succinct term for this that isn't very common outside academia.

I'd love to know what it is. Hindsight Bias, as mentioned above is the psychological term for almost the same exact idea.

  9. Yes, I am familiar with hindsight bias from my psychology program. This is something different. If I think of it, I will share it here for all.... now it is bugging me....

Interesting; the Skeptic's Dictionary defines scientism as "Scientism, in the strong sense, is the self-annihilating view that only scientific claims are meaningful, which is not a scientific claim." LOL :Eyecrazy:

    Presentism?

  14. Presentism sounds right but doesn't set off the "ah yes, that's it!" bell. Let's go with presentism. Thanks Ted.
