A related question is whether a Master's degree program rigorous enough to be worthy of the name should be able to be completed in ten months or less....

A great many full-time Master's programs require 30 semester units, which can be completed in one academic year, which is typically eight to nine months. Those typically require a thesis, often quite short. Alternative is sometimes 36 units but no thesis. (My wife's MA at California State University Dominguez Hills was that sort, and her thesis was limited to 30 typed pages. She refused, and said she would do at least 60. Her chair said, in effect, 'Do what you will, but I will only read 30 pages."

The Edinburgh Business School MBA of Heriot-Watt University, which I helped market for nine years in North America (and which became the largest Master's degree of any kind in North America) required passing 27 hours of exams. The university argued that it was of no interest to them how long (or short) one took to prepare for the exams. There were a very cases of people passing all nine 3-hour exams in one week. A fair number did it in one year, but the average was more like 2 1/2 to 3 (albeit not fulltime study).

It is quite possible if one attends college full time for two semesters (2 x 16 weeks /4.3 weeks per month = 7.44 months) and taking a 15 units each semester. Admittedly it is not ten-months from beginning to end.
I know people do this and in one case I know of the person gave up a years salary ($60K plus benefits in 1990) to do it.

Similarly, Chadron State's MBA is delivered via 8-week terms and the coursework can be completed in 8 months. The 6-credit project/thesis/etc could probably be done in the remaining 2 months. Chandron's RA, not DETC.
