Praise the best and trash the worst. What websites have you seen that stand out among others- both in a good and bad way? What makes the "good" good and what do the "bad" ones need to improve?
It's not my school, but the website for Kaplan University seemed like a nice one. Kind of reminded me of a military recruiting website, but nice overall nonetheless.
What annoys me are those "CHAT WITH AN ADVISER" boxes that pop up on some websites ... seems to be mostly for-profit schools but I recall seeing one on a non-profit school too. I don't mind having a graphic on the site that says "Live chat with us" or something (that can actually be useful) but having it pop up uninvited smacks of unprofessionalism and desperation.
Some of the South African university websites are pretty poor. It seems that they are either remarkably difficult to navigate or they have very little content.
It's annoying when the school wants you fill out a form--invariably asking for an email address and telephone--to "find out more!!" in place of detailed information about their programs. Phillip
BEST: University of Alabama at Birmingham Worst: Miles college.....it just looks cheap to me Best website to fool you: Talladega College | Founded in 1867 You would have to see the campus of Talladega college. There is no way in hell I would go there. That place looks thrown away. Plus the dorms looked like projects.
You are right the Talladega website looks great, looks like a great school to attend. Interesting that the campus would be as bad as you say, never been there, don't know. Just goes to show that it's not that difficult to make a nice looking website. It's also interesting that a lot of really nice schools have relatively poor websites. The degree mill we have made so much fun of, MUST University, actually has a really nice website. Fake school; great website.
I would have disagreed with you about the University of Alabama website, until I noticed that there was a picture on the homepage of none other than... THE BUSHWHACKERS!!!!!
I actually attended Talladega College for one semester. I lived in Ish Hall and we called it Ish Projects. :ugh1:
Worst: Open University of Catalonia! I don't have an issue so much with their portal website, but the virtual campus is a nightmare. I've tried to register for a course - ha! No chance. 3 emails in the virtual campus (no reply) no links, no forms, no way to pay - despite classes starting in a few weeks. Add the language translation issues, and it's been one problem after another. My initial emails were answered quickly, directing me to register and pay in the virutal campus
