    (1) The effects of emotional intelligence and leadership styles on conflict among high level executive teams in US corporation or;

    (2) Violence in the Workplace: Can bad bosses and managers lead an employee to engage in workplace assaults and threats of violence?

    Applied ethnographical methodology for question 1. To address the question 2 however, I will employ a case study of five of the most recent workplace violence incidents to date (January 2010 to October 2010).

    I was able to find quite a bit of information on violence in the workplace but I haven't been able to locate many articles that addresses violence in the workplace from an organizational leadership and management perspective.

    Which would be your choice and why?; Do the foregoing questions make sense?' Should I reword my choices? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Would be nice if I could go to the prison and interview perpetrators. Would also like to interview the organization as victims and the perpetrator's families, etc.

    Thanks,

    While question 1 appears to me to be the most interesting, it also may be the hardest to get information on. I would bet that most conmpaies would not want to divulge that type of information. The most likely source would be from the losers in such a struggle abd their perspective could be considered biased.

    Question 2 could have the problem of ending up like a popular magizine article. see: WORKPLACE VIOLENCE

    I understand your positions, I really do since I have had the same thoughts. However, where Question 2 is concerned, a relatively quick literature review unearthed few articles addressing workplace violence from an organizational leadership and management perspective. I think this gap needs to be rectified. What are your thoughts?

    Sorry that I posted this question in this forum. I intended to post this in the Off Topic Discussion. Not sure how to transfer.

    I like #2, but...

    If you tweak #2's title to perceived factors, then I believe you have something to work with; because as other posters have commented, you won't be able to gain a good perspective from the managers involved because of legal issues and such.

    That being said, (without any knowledge of the subject), will you be able to have a 25 - 30 page literature review on your topic? Like it or not, that's one of those "dissertation rules" that you need to follow. If you can do the lit review, then go for it.

    My daughter-in-law's UC marine biology dissertation had 200 pages which included a 30 page literature review and a 20 page bibliography.

    Shawn: Thanks for your comments. Can you go into greater detail about what you mean when you suggested that I may want to tweak #2's title to include the words 'perceived factors.' I don't understand. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again!

    I did a lot of ground work on my initial topic; delphi study, pulled articles and other research, but I think I can produce an interesting piece of work if I were to conduct a case study of five workplace violence situations that ocurred recently. Not sure. Just confused. If I used question 1, I want to tweak the title a bit so that it sounds professional (for want of a better word).

    Thanks Shawn:

    I am sure I can produce a top quality literature review on the workplace violence topic. Regarding the Leadership and Emotional Intelligence topic, I have already completed a literature review for that topic and came up over 30 pages. The page count for either topic would not be an issue for me at al. There are lots of materials on both topics. It all boils down to a matter of choice, I think which is why I am here to find out what your thoughts are on the topic of choice.
